Exhibition Proposal for Summer 2016

The NMSU University Art Gallery invites proposals for solo, group, and curated exhibitions, highlighting the use of new media including but not limited to: interactive and fine art video installations, multimedia performances, single channel video, animation, digital dome programs, experimental documentary, web based/app art forms, architectural mapping, the oculus rift, robotics and 3D printing. This exhibition will be presented as part of the annual New Mexican festival “Currents: New Media New Mexico”, which aims to showcase new media forms in art. Proposals will be accepted for exhibitions which fill the full University Gallery space, or which are created for sections of the gallery space (please see gallery floor plan to reference any specific layout of gallery space.) The exhibition will run May 26, 2016 – July 23, 2016.
An Exhibition Review Board, made up of community members, arts professionals, and NMSU art faculty will review proposals biannually in a two-part process. Completing this application is the first step in the review process. If accepted for round two – you will be asked to submit a more detailed proposal with a longer description of the project and more supporting images. If accepted for an exhibition at the UAG you will be provided with a modest stipend for travel and shipping costs*. As part of the exhibition, the UAG will print all labels and wall materials as well as publications including but not limited to: postcards, posters, banners, and an exhibition catalogue.
*Shipping costs for any giving exhibition can not exceed $500.00 USD round trip, including materials. Any shipping cost which exceeds this amount must be covered by the artist.
The UAG is a 3,875 square foot museum-quality gallery. All exhibitions are manned by our staff, and open to the public five days a week. Our gallery staff will help you fully realize your exhibition, and you will receive the full support of of staff during all stages of the exhibition.
Exhibition proposals are open to all students, as well as amateur and professional artists. All people who are interested in submitting to the Summer 2016 round of submissions must do so by December 30, 2015. To apply, artists need to submit 3-5 images of original artworks which support their project in jpg format (No higher than 5mb files, if higher size files are needed for print we will email you), a short (paragraph or less) bio, their contact information, and $30 entry fee. All files should be numbered and named with the artist’s last name and first name. All entries must be original and executed by the submitting artist or curator. There is a $30 entry fee ($30 + $5 Slideroom fee), all fees go towards shipping fees, printing costs, and the 2015-2016 programming at the UAG.
You can also become an Artist Member of the gallery. Submitting to Exhibition Proposal + Membership allows artists to apply for this opportunity while also becoming a member of our “Friends of the UAG” program. Becoming a “Friend” at the $25 (+5 Slideroom fee) level gives you: Advance notice of programming and events, a ticket to our annual membership party, an exhibition submission fee waiver voucher (to any future submission opportunities), and a invitation to our annual membership party.
Delivery and Return of Work: As explained above, if accepted for an exhibition at the UAG you will be provided with a modest stipend for shipping costs*. All work selected for a solo, group, or curated exhibition must arrive ready to install. Our staff will install all artwork and our gallery director will work in collaboration with any chosen artist or curator to complete all installations. Work may be hand delivered or shipped. Shipped works must be sent in reusable packaging. All packaging will be kept in a cool, dry and safe environment for return shipping. Works will be returned in the same manner as they are delivered.
Work sales: All work, unless indicated as not for sale (NFS), will be available for sale during exhibit. The UAG will retain a commission of 25% on all artwork sold during the exhibition, all sales made through the UAG are not for profit and will go back towards programming costs for the year.
